Week 5 - Sunday (10K RACE DAY) [Updated]
As far as the 10K goes, I don’t know what I’m doing. This was compounded by the fact that they started the 5K runners and the 10K runners at the same time (the 10K was just two loops of the 5K route). If you don’t know how to pace yourself for a 10K (which I don’t) getting stuck in the middle of a crowd of 5Kers makes pacing very difficult. I started out way too fast. Under 7:00, I think.
And to top it off, I had another iPod malfunction. While I actually got it to start, when I tried to get pacing information about a half mile in, it gave it back to me in kilometers. KILOMETERS! I am not metrically inclined. The information did not help. And although the course was certified as 10 kilometers, the iPod was convinced I had another kilometer to go. So strike two for the Nano in a race environment. I have to get a better case — one with a window.
In the end, I did better than I expected. I wanted to run between 45 and 50 minutes. I ended up with 43:24. Thirteenth overall. And either second or third in my age group (depending on which list you’re looking at). I’m not sure why this was so much of a problem. Anyway, 10K down. Half-marathon on the horizon.
[Update]: Looks like I came in third (dang!) but if you want to see the overall listing just click here.

Thats a great time for 10k.
Now that the Half Marathon I took a few days off, but next weekend there is a Turky trot, called the “Iron Trucky” were you run a 10K, then a 5k, and your final time is it. Im still discussing doing this one with my knee, it has not quite desided yet.
the 13th is the start of my 16 week traing program for LA. See ya there.

James–
Nice work! That’s a little over 7 min miles, right? That’s moving!
So you’re ready for that half marathon… damnit, I knew you’d call my bluff. Guess I better get training.

10k is 6.2 if i am not mistaken, still a great time.
Acording to runers world here are your recomended paces:
1500m 5:49
the mile 6:16
3000m(3k) 12:07
3200m(about 2 miles) 12:58
5000m(5k) 20:49
8000m(8k) 34:16
5 miles 34:29
10,000m(10k) 43:25
ten miles 1:11:53
a half marathon 1:35:43
a marathon 3:19:33
Im kind of sad, I was hopeing to be able to keep up with you for the marathon, but even with 16 weeks of hard training to go, Im only dreaming of getting 3:30.

EW - 7:01/mile…or so the results page says.
Mormegil - I can almost guarantee you I won’t be running 3:30. I mean, come on. All I want is sub 4 hours which will be a whole hour off my last time which, if you think about it, ain’t that bad an improvement.

Thats what you say now, but I think you are haveing a distance brake through, you already have the speed and muscel efecancy, all you need now is to get your endourance up, and you will be kicking ass. 16 weeks is a long time.
Wait tell you do your first 20 mile practice run, you will realize that 26.2 isent so far.
For the record Ill call your race now. I predict 3:20 - 3:30.
